Oban...

oban

Oban is a resort town within the Argyll and Bute council area of Scotland. It has a total resident population of 8,120.[1] Despite its small size, it is the largest town between Helensburgh and Fort William and during the tourist season the town can be crowded by up to 25,000 people. Oban occupies a beautiful setting in the Firth of Lorn. Oban Bay is a near perfect horseshoe bay, protected by the island of Kerrera, and beyond Kerrera is Mull. To the north is the long low island of Lismore, and the mountains of Morvern and Ardgour.

Nominated and assessed on Friday 24th September 2011. On the way to pick up the Isle of Barra boat at Oban we stopped of here for a quick cup of coffee. A beautiful view from the tearoom overlooking the Firth of Lorne and Dunstaffage castle in the distance. i had a lovely freshly baked scone with homemade raspberry preserve. A good selection of homemade cakes were available .There is also a lovely garden centre and gift shop to browse if not in a rush like we were . A superb stop for views, cakes and retail therapy.
